Adaptive Reuse & Renovations
Client: Cincinnati State Technical & Community College (CSTCC)
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Project:
With current student services (10,000 + Students) scattered throughout the existing main building in at least five different locations, CSTCC determined that it was time to simplify and make these activities/operations more efficiently and logistically central. Design team (client & architects) visited and studied a one stop center at the University of Cincinnati (35,000 + students) to gather best practice ideas.
Details:
Solutions produced a consolidated operational center which provided: program/class informational kiosks; help desk; financial aid office; treasurer office for direct payments; counselors suite for one-on-one consultations; academic advisors, meeting kiosks, break room for staff; lounge/waiting area for students and/or parents; a computer corner for self help online assistance; a common work room for staff; selective meeting and conference room(s). The entrance lobby provided an openness with rotating glass walls, metal texture ceiling panels, accent lighting and the front counter (consisting of a kit of parts) - allowing for it to be arranged in a number of different configurations as needed.
Visibility (to see what was going on) was a critical element that needed to be provided for when appropriate.
