Adaptive Reuse & Change of Use
Client: Morrow Children Development Center Inc.
Location: Morrow, Ohio
Project:
Owner of Day Care business acquired a vacant strip mall store space then commissioned our office to convert it into a dynamic learning space for toddlers and kindergartners.
Details:
Scope included significant planning and coordination with school year class scheduling and proposed construction activities.
Working with different materials and textures the walls and partial floors became secondary learning instruments as the childrens senses of touch, sight, and hearing were engaged throughout the various spaces in a diversity of ways.
Using a variety of wall heights we created a vertical vocabulary that taught them dimensioning. Objects hanging at various heights from the ceiling added to this geometry of space.
Color Patterns and schemes were grouped, scattered, and coordinated to be a teaching tool as well as for dramatic the effect. The various textures produced different sounds.
Given the public street of the Daycare's location a secured entry was designed to control direct access to any child. The capacity of the Center was assigned at 55 by the local Daycare Licensing Authority. .
