Client: Bethany House Services
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Project:
A well-used housing shelter program for situational homeless, and/or battered women, needed to have a modern kitchen operation in order to sufficiently and effectively feed the programs growing number of clients. Project was challenged by the need to fit an expanded multi-functional kitchen within the same four wall space.
Details:
Serving on Bethany House's Board for more than 15 years Mr. Alexander intimately knew the client and the needs of the shelter. The existing kitchen spaces were documented then transformed to include: a continuous serving counter; dual range cooking area; new energy for plumbing and sink fixtures with deep bowls; temperature control valves for hot water flow; new sub and finish flooring; solid wood cabinetry; new suspended acoustical ceiling with sound insulation; new energy efficient light fixtures and sensor controls; additional and creative food storage methods - by conversion of former porch area into food pantry for dry and cold storage area structural reinforcement of existing structure was required at storage area. Kitchen operations serves a minimum of three meals and two snack sessions per day, seven days a week, year round. The kitchen also provides catering for special events.
