Client: St Paul AME Church Trustees
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Project:
Redesign a deteriorating stone faced Annex building into functional multi-purpose uses for church's growing programs and critical outreach ministries.
Details:
Facility was a shell stone walled structured gutted on the inside partially by fire and by non-use and long-term neglect. Weather had also entered the building through damaged or missing slates in roofing. The exterior historic character of building had to be maintained while creating the dynamic new spaces and environments. We designed a completely new internal structural framing system which doubly reinforced the stone walls. Having to replace the roofing gave opportunity to incorporate new skylights to brighten up selected spaces.
Do to the public use of this Annex-vertical ADA accessibility was solved by vertical lifts and ramps. A complicated sectional model which could be taken apart in sections was commissioned so client could fully understand the complicated solutions that were required and created.
Staff worked diligently with City's Historic Office and Fire Departments to develop untypical code compliant solution(s) prior to the final submission for building reconstruction permit.
