Gaskill & Robertson Halls Renovations

Client: Miami University
Location: Oxford, Ohio

Projects: (Details)
Gaskill Hall: Provided complete architectural/engineering design and project management for the renovations and conversion of a 25,000 square foot former paper science department into a state-of-the-art facility with: new laboratories, classrooms, and administrative area; plus conversion of a surplus space into new campus wide multi-media center with micro-computer training laboratory (20 CPU stations). This three story masonry structure required extensive modifications/replacements to the: electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems; fire protection and laboratory exhaust had to be replaced as well as numerous interior functional redesign for more efficiency of operation. Energy conservation issues were addressed by redesign of the critical vertical and horizontal circulation pathways.

Robertson Hall: This phase involved upgrading renovations to a 15,000 square foot building containing; existing chemistry classrooms, laboratories, and administrative and operational support areas. Adaptive reuse of spaces dictated conversion of storage spaces into labs and classrooms into offices. Delivery dock with adjacent storage areas were designed to include a high level of security for the various chemicals and materials being utilized in the academic programs. This building required minor structural and electrical upgrading; in addition, our removal of handicap barriers throughout made for the building more accessible and put into compliance with ADA type requirements.

Resultant of work on this project led to Miami University asking Mr. Alexander to accept a professorship of Architectural Design. He held that position for 11 years (Full and part-time)
