New Addition & Design Concept
Client: Covington Independent Schools
Location: Covington, Kentucky
Project:
To design a unique science/greenhouse classroom prototype, which could be adaptable, reconfigured based on major themes of study. The labs would incorporate the critical study of plants, environments, insects and food (cash) crops into the academic curriculum - while focusing on the conditions of ongoing real life scenarios and the ecological balance of the earth.
Details:
Selected site would have a stone approach to the building complex, a separate bridge across a study pond - stocked with fish, algae, etc. and connected at one end to greenhouse exit/entrance. The classroom structure would be attached yet minimally connected to the greenhouse via a doorway. The classroom would be multi equipped with moving walls, lowering ceiling, lighting would be basic and flexible with various settings for a diverse number of ambiences, a huge roll up door will allow huge exhibits to be installed and removed as desired.
The classroom will be able to undergo dramatic reconfiguration into: eg. A cave setting, outer space environment, a mountain peak, a terrace plateau, etc.
Teaching by the hands on approach has been proven that students retain more and get it much faster.
