An International Forum which brought together public housing experts from around the world. Public housing officials, academics, practitioners, and housing residents convened to identify, debate, compare, and analyze practices and issues in urban and public housing in industrialized nations. The outcome provided directions and agendas for action.
Details:
As community outreach chair, Mr. Alexander lead the challenging task of getting residents actively involved to meaningful levels in a pre-forum workshop on Public Housing issues, as well as the section on enhanced self-sufficiency for residents in public housing.
The major topics addressed were: Public Housing Policy; comprehensive neighborhood planning for Public Housing; Public Housing in the urban design context; Quality Design Standards and Guidelines; residents participation; public housing alternatives; revitalization and rehabilitating; and the elderly, children, and special populations in public housing.
Participation components were created: 1) Pre-forum Workshop on Public Housing Issues; 2) Modernist Visions of Urban Housing; 3) Art in Public Housing - local artists installing major art works; 4) Children's Play Environments.
